Former Legislator Gene Ready Dies at 74

Lakeland native Gene Ready, a former member of the House of Representatives and more recently national president of Seminole Boosters Inc., has died. He was 74. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Heath Funeral Chapel, according to a listing on the funeral home’s website.

Lakeland Airport Director Decides to Stay Put

The head of Lakeland’s airport has turned down an opportunity to move to a similar job in Naples. “I’m honored that I was selected as their No. 1 candidate,” Gene Conrad said. “But as we weighed all the great opportunities that we have here in Lakeland, we decided that staying here was really the best option.”
